Doctoral students who have an interest in gaining further experience with research and research methods are encouraged to apply for a Student Research Assistant position within the Center for Educational and Instructional Technology Research. The Student Research Assistant (SRA) opportunity is an exciting endeavor,听 with the goal of helping students gain research and writing skills through praxis and in-depth experience of live research. SRAs who qualify will be connected with the center's research labs and will be personally involved in the research activities along with the faculty who are leading the research lab projects.
WHO
- Doctoral students who have completed their proposal and who have received IRB approval for their own dissertation research. Students will need to send their IRB approval letters as confirmation of IRB approval.
- Doctoral students who are interested in research and research methods
- Doctoral students who will actively participate and engage in the live research process
- Doctoral students who wish to hone their research skills
- Doctoral students who view and acknowledge that advancing research skills may help them achieve their own professional goals
WHY
- Increased writing skills
- Increased knowledge of research methods and methodology
- Increased skills in interviewing, building surveys, or otherwise collecting qualitative and quantitative data
- Increased skills in analyzing data
- Increased skills in writing up the results
- Most importantly, engage in and see live research up close with those who are experts in the field
What Will be Required of Me?
- Attend research lab meetings with the faculty conducting the research. Most labs will meet once a week to keep projects moving forward.
- Participate. That means not lurking or watching, but becoming actively involved with the research process.
- You may be asked to help with conducting literature reviews, searching the library for articles pertinent to the study, writing part of the proposal or final report, conducting interviews, collecting survey data, analyzing research data, and other research activities as needed by the research team. Note that all research members will be involved, including the faculty.
- Communicate well. You will need to stay in touch with the faculty lead on the research lab team. If you do not, you may be removed from the team and will no longer be a Student Research Assistant. Successful research necessitates clear and constant communication.

- Attach your approval letter from the IRB acknowledging that you have successfully passed IRB in your dissertation process
- Provide your CV along with your name, and contact information (email and phone)
- 1-2 sentences (no more) about your preferred method or topic. It may be possible to match you to a topic or method, but it is also possible you may be on a team that uses a method with which you are not familiar and a topic that you must learn about. That is part of the research!
