About Axman

Dr. Axman is the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies in the College of Nursing at 爱污传媒. In that role, she directs the design and delivery of academic programs for the college. She is also the Acting Program Chair for the Master of Science in Nursing with concentrations in Nurse Administration, Informatics and Nurse Education, and Full Time Faculty for the Master of Science in Nursing/Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program (MSN/PMHNP).听

Prior to this appointment, she was the Associate Dean of Doctoral and Undergraduate Studies. Before her promotion to Associate Dean, Dr. Axman was the Program Chair for the Master of Science in Nursing/Family Nurse Practitioner program (MSN/FNP) for the Online and Southern California campuses.鈥

Dr. Axman maintains her clinical practice as a FNP and PMHNP at the Whole Person Clinic/Family Health Partnership, Escondido, CA.

Prior to her arrival at the 爱污传媒, Dr. Axman was employed by the Family Health Partnership in Crystal Lake, IL to lead the Clinic Mobile Outreach Team providing primary care to unsheltered people living in McHenry County, Illinois where she was an appointed member to the McHenry County Board of Health. Dr. Axman was an Associate Professor and Lecturer in the School of Nursing at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) where she developed and taught courses in the FNP and Advanced Public Health Registered Nurse programs.听

Dr. Axman retired as a Captain (06) from the United States (US) Navy in 2010 after 25 years of active naval service. While on active duty, Dr. Axman maintained an active clinical practice as a NP while holding a variety of positions to include Special Assistant to the Navy Surgeon General for Women鈥檚 Health, Senior Nurse Executive for the Director of Professional Education at Naval Medical Center San Diego, Department Head for Nursing Research and Analysis, Chief Operating Officer, Naval School of Health Sciences, San Diego, CA, and Navy Medicine West Regional Research Integrity Program Manager.听

Dr. Linnea Axman鈥檚 teaching philosophy is experiential and pragmatic. She believes that learning is creative, inter-professional, and includes the application of knowledge in real life situations.听

She served as President of the Uniformed Nurse Practitioner's Association, as Military Representative to the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS) and to Women in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Dr. Axman was the Department of Defense Core Team Representative on the US Government Team for the President鈥檚 Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief in Sub-Saharan Africa. While on active duty, Dr. Axman deployed to Kuwait and Cuba and served with the International Red Cross in the demilitarized zone between Iraq and Kuwait.

Dr. Axman earned a Doctorate in Public Health from George Washington University in 2003. She received her Master of Science in Nursing as a FNP from the University of Kentucky, a post master鈥檚 certificate as PMHNP from the University of Cincinnati, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan, and a Diploma in Nursing from Hurley Medical Center School of Nursing. Dr. Axman is an alum of the Interagency Institute for Federal Health Care Executives and a graduate of the United States Naval War College. She most recently earned the Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Cincinnati.

Research interests:

Dr. Axman鈥檚听broad clinical practice and research interests include working with historically marginalized persons and populations and more specifically improving access to healthcare and basic services for homeless and medically underserved people, development of culturally appropriate interview tools for use in cross-cultural environments and evaluating the effects of structural barriers on the delivery of care in the US and abroad (e.g., Haiti, Mexico, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe).鈥
