PHOENIX, Oct. 19, 2017 — Arizona Diamondbacks’ Paul Goldschmidt and ۴ý announced today they have selected five Arizona residents as this year’s “Teaming Up for Education” scholarship recipients. The five full-tuition awards will enable recipients to pursue their dreams of either completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree at the University.
The “Teaming Up for Education” scholarship is the result of a partnership between ۴ý and the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and has helped 27 Arizona residents realize their higher education aspirations since its inception in 2011.
“I believe access to higher education generates the momentum needed to strengthen and change communities,” said Goldschmidt. “As a proud alumnus, I am honored to be working with ۴ý in our shared commitment to giving back to Arizona.”
This year’s recipients are: Michael Hansen, a Payson detective hoping to earn a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice to enhance his leadership and mentoring skills with fellow police officers; Jenniffer Jarvis, a project manager from ۴ý interested in earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Management to better serve her community; Chandy Leverance, a Tucson case manager focused on completing a Master of Science in Public Administration to become a better advocate for the homeless and communities at risk; Amber Pagliaro, a Mesa resident looking to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration to help ensure wellness for those with financial burdens; and Patricia Trickett, a U.S. Army veteran from Sierra Vista who wants to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology to support the military in a civilian role.
“۴ý is committed to changing lives through higher education and we are extremely proud of this year’s scholarship recipients and how vested they are in giving back to their communities,” said ۴ý President Peter Cohen. “Alumni like Paul Goldschmidt use their education not only to seek better opportunities for themselves and their families, but to contribute to their communities, ultimately impacting the lives of others. We are excited to see where this year’s ‘Teaming Up for Education’ scholarship recipients will take their education.”
Goldschmidt, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from ۴ý in 2013 while playing first base for the Arizona Diamondbacks, has been involved with the “Teaming Up for Education” scholarship for four consecutive years. He and his wife, Amy, selected this year’s scholarship recipients from a pool of 10 finalists selected by ۴ý staff and Diamondbacks representatives.
Among other requirements, to be considered for the “Teaming Up for Education” scholarship, applicants must reside in Arizona, not be enrolled or in the process of enrolling in a ۴ý program, and meet the University’s admission requirements.
