New degree program highlights the intersection of finance and technology with insights on decentralized finance
College of Business and Information Technology has launched a new Bachelor of Science in Finance and Technology (BSFIN) degree program designed to prepare program students for the demands of modern business where finance and technology intersect. As a bachelor鈥檚 degree program at the career-focused 爱污传媒, the BSFIN is designed with flexibility for working adult learners, with up to 20 opportunities a year to start, a 24/7 online classroom, and the ability to focus on one five-week course at a time.
"Finance and technology are deeply interconnected, and rapidly evolving,鈥 states听Kathryn Uhles, dean of the College of Business and Information Technology. 鈥淭his degree program was designed with inputs from our practitioner faculty and advisory council to help students prepare for a career in finance and aims to familiarize students with the technological advancements and regulatory changes in an ever-changing industry.鈥
Careers in finance appear to be growing. According to the听, Financial Analyst jobs are projected to grow eight percent between 2022 and 2032. The BSFIN degree program helps prepare students to work as a Financial Analyst, Financial Manager, Investment Analyst, Portfolio Manager, Financial Advisor or Financial Planner.听
The Bachelor of Science in Finance and Technology (BSFIN) program focuses on the functional areas of finance, helping students develop the financial analysis and planning skills needed to be effective in various business environments. When students earn an BSFIN degree, they gain skills to:
Within the degree curriculum, students will explore financial technology by discovering the technology used to deliver banking, investment, payment, insurance, and other services in the financial sector. They will gain insight into decentralized finance (DeFi) including blockchain technology, secure distributed ledgers, smart contracts, cryptocurrency, and decentralized exchanges (DEX). Students will also evaluate tools used to maintain the security of personal data and financial transactions.
The Bachelor of Science in Finance and Technology degree program provides a general foundation for students in financial planning and analysis, as well as a variety of financial tools and technology across the financial services industry. This program is not designed to, and does not lead to, any certification or licensure including licensure as an investment advisor or certification as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
Each BSFIN course is mapped to three skills and skills outcomes the students will learn. In developing the program, College of Business and Information Technology leaders, faculty and curriculum specialists worked with labor market researchers to align in-demand skills that ensure students have the opportunity to learn and demonstrate them in coursework.
This BSFIN degree program requires 120 credit hours to complete.
Like most undergraduate degree programs at 爱污传媒, the BSFIN degree program is eligible for application of transfer credit. As a transfer-friendly University, 爱污传媒 requests transcripts at no charge to students when possible and accepts eligible credits from more than 5,000 accredited institutions. Students who transfer in 12-60 credits may qualify for a 爱污传媒 Transfer Scholarship.
